As the Ukraine war has dragged on, many critics of US and Western intervention seem to have developed more sympathy for the Russian side in the conflict. All the disclaimers we were familiar with in 2022 about how Putin is horrible, and he was wrong to invade Ukraine, but it's just not in America's interest to provide aid, seem to have fallen by the wayside and now we just hear about how evil Anthony Blinken is and how Russian victory is inevitable and perhaps imminent.
What should those of us with an "America First" view of foreign policy think about the prospects of a Russian victory vs some sort of humiliating defeat for our Regime's longtime adversary?
Well, I'll just come out and say it. I'm rootin' for Putin.
Now if the rhetoric coming from Western capitals was accurate and a Russian victory meant the persecution of so-called "ethnic Ukrainians" as Kiev was put under direct control of Moscow. And now the whole country was a staging ground for Putin to begin reconstituting the Warsaw Pact by force, then obviously I wouldn't favor Zelensky's defeat even if I was opposed to US participation in the war. But those are all obvious lies.
Here's what happens if Russia was actually defeated and forced to completely withdraw and retreat from Ukraine:
1. The war Hawks in the US would feel vindicated. They would start calling for intervention anywhere their military empire seemed threatened. Whether that's Taiwan, Iran, Venezuela, Georgia, you name it. People like Blinken, John Kirby, Lindsay Graham, and other likeminded senators and bureaucrats are literally insane psychopaths that are all too willing to bankrupt this country and risk nuclear war if they feel their power could be diminished even slightly.
2. Putin would probably be overthrown in Russia and a more hawkish, less restrained strong man would take power in Moscow. An angry former general sitting in the Kremlin with access to the world's largest nuclear arsenal is not a good thing.
3. Ukraine would be invited to join NATO meaning any future conflict with Russia would automatically trigger a US response and we would now find ourselves in a direct war with Moscow rather than this cowardly proxy war Biden's handlers have been waging for the past 2+ years.
And finally, while it's hard to imagine Ukraine somehow "winning" this war in terms of the goals envisioned by the lunatic Zelensky, if it did happen it would probably take several more years, the sacrifice of what's left of Ukraine's able-bodied population, and a trillion US dollars to accomplish. A Russian victory could come tomorrow if the Ukrainians simply give up and stop pretending they can reconquer the Russian speaking portions of their Soviet era geographic boundaries.
I honestly can't see anything good coming from the Regime claiming victory in Ukraine.
